My Biography

What a long, strange trip it's been. Here are some highlights from my personal, business and technology experiences.

1969 - Born in New York City.

1982 - Purchased first rudimentary computer, a Timex Sinclair, with money saved from a paper route.

1987 - Graduate from high school in Queens, NY.

1991 - Graduate from college in Queens, NY.

1992 - Ditch my day job to become a personal fitness instructor in Manhattan.

1993 - Move to Santa Monica, California to live by the beach and continue working as a fitness trainer. Decide to enlist in the U.S. Army infantry in the fall.

1995 - Graduate from U.S. Army Officer Candidate School (Class 2-95) and head off to Fort Knox for Armor Officer training. Depart for assignment in Germany in the fall.

1996 - Buy my first modern personal computer from Micron. Also get connected to the internet for the first time. Start experimenting with using the computer to record multi-track audio.

1998 - Separate from the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant. Take a job as a programmer and systems analyst with Andersen Consulting which is now known as Accenture. I move into the Windows 98 era with the purchase of a new Dell PC.

1999 - Leave Andersen with the hopes of becoming a successful restaurateur in New York City. My hopes are suitably dashed within a few months so I join a fledgling electrical energy industry consulting firm called The Structure Group.

2000 - Move to Austin, Texas. Become aware of blogging and start my first blog using the Blogger service. Plan to launch an interactive Mets website that combines blogs and aggregated news.

2001 - Launch MetsFanatic.com, built using Macromedia Dreamweaver with an MS Access database back end. Also launch a personal website at www.safuto.com, incorporating elements that are found on many modern social networks. Spend six weeks in the spring traveling and scuba diving in Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia. Move back to New York City to live in Manhattan in the fall.

2004 - Start and complete writing a business book titled Welcome To The Beehive: A Beginner's Guide To Conquering The World Of Business. Record an unabridged audio version of the book as well.

2005 - Read a newspaper article on podcasting in USA Today and immediately begin to turn Welcome To The Beehive into a podcast. Welcome To The Beehive Podcast debuts in March. Launched the podcasting portal Podcast NYC as a vehicle for my slate of audio podcast shows.

2006 - Launched my Awakened Voice Technology blog, podcast and social media lessons. Joined the team at RawVoice in October on a part time basis to assist with marketing efforts for their podcast community offerings.

2007 - Departed my energy industry position in May in order to provide full time support for RawVoice. Returned to the electric energy industry as a strategic analyst for a Northeast U.S. market operator in September. Independent short film I produced screens at two New York area film festivals resulting in a pair of IMDB credits. Launched the clean energy technology blog Clean Energy Digest in November.

2008 - Launched Drupal learning site Learn By The Drop. Began MBA studies in the part-time program at U. Albany in August.
